about

Before writing the lyrics to this song, I had watched Blade Runner for the first time and continued to think about it for long afterward. Replicant has the mood of the film thanks to Reynold on the Mellotron organ, while the drums lead up to an evaporating climax a la Roy Batty's death. But the lyrics are from the perspective of someone who discovers their own shortened mortality, i.e., Deckard.

lyrics

I was being followed
but thought him far behind.
Now I see how close he is.
Now there is an end in sight.

I used to be the hunter,
but now I am haunted.
The fear I've caused in others
now replicates inside.

For the first time
I've made sense of dreams.
Though I am disembodied,
I have found my meaning.

I was being hunted
but thought him far behind.
Now I see him standing here.
Now I see the end is clear.
