about

Another space travel song. Exploration is usually for valorous characters, those who seek action and fear little to nothing. But I contend the future of space exploration will be of necessity rather than for the thrill; full of tedium and cryo-sleeping for decades. And at ultra high speeds, what is a decade if time is relative? What kind of life is this for a space hero? What kind of life will there be for future generations even if a destination is found? One not of tedium, but of joyless reproduction and hardship humans have never known on Earth.

lyrics

Who’s kept track of time?
How many years till we arrive?
Eight in ten have died.
Open the hatch goodbye.

The future of
our race
is for the patient not
the brave.

Who’s kept track of time?
How many years till we arrive?
How old now am I?
Who can now make sense of time?

Systems working fine.
What does it mean now to have a life?
Nine in ten have died.
Open the hatch goodbye.
