about

Vanitas paintings are a take on the fatalistic writings in Ecclesiastes. I find it ironic that someone who considers life vain would chose to immortalize that idea by rendering it on a canvas and to sign their name for posterity. The person in this song takes the advice of the Ecclesiastes quote, "eat, drink, and be merry" (well, really just the drink part) to an alcoholic extent. But what happens when the wine runs out?

lyrics

In my still life
there’s a skull
and bowls of fruit
that will be rotting soon.

I suppose the best
I can do
is immortalize
eternal gloom.

I suppose the best
I can do
is sign my name
on these minutes of fame.

Where is all of the wine?
Where has all of the wine gone?

Where has all the wine gone? x3

Ahh…
